A comic book (often shortened to simply comic and sometimes called a funny book, comic paper or comic magazine) is a magazine made up of narrative artwork in the form of separate "panels" that represent individual scenes, often accompanied by dialog (usually in word balloons, emblematic of the comic book art form) as well as including brief descriptive prose. The first comic book appeared in the United States of America in 1934, reprinting the earlier newspaper comic strips, which established many of the story-telling devices used in comics. The term "comic book" arose because the first comic books reprinted humor comic strips, but despite their name, comic books do not necessarily operate in humorous mode; most modern comic books tell stories in a variety of genres. The Japanese and European comic book markets demonstrate this clearly. In the United States the super-hero genre dominates the market, even though other genres also exist. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Comic books" What books should I study to become a better comic book artist? Q. I love graphic novel and comic book art. Any suggestions on books I should study to become a better comic book artist? I'm thinking both art books and perhaps specific graphic novels or comic books? Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated. Thank you! Asked by chrisandniki - Thu Mar 12 15:18:28 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. If I could draw (and I can't), I would find out if my favorite artists have a webpage and contact them for suggestions. Sometime they have message boards where people post their art to get pointers on how to improve. Otherwise, I would go to Amazon.com and search for books specific to comics such as "Drawing Cutting Edge Anatomy: The Ultimate Reference for Comic Book Artists (Paperback)". Read the reviews and see what other artists recommend. Answered by I Am Baytor - Thu Mar 12 17:05:02 2009 How many pages do comic books normally have? Q. Just your plain Marvel or DC comic book.
