COMiC BOOKS!!!?
Q. First,in the current spider-girl comic, whats the deal with the guy dressing as spider-man but looks like dr. strange? Second, in the current ultimate x-men, how is charles x able to walk? Last, in the current kyle ryner green lantern book tittled ION, whats the story behind that?

A. I dont have an answer to the spider girl or ION questions, as I do not read them. I havent read any of the Ultimate titles for awhile, but I do not enough about it to give you an answer. The Ultimates line of comics is an alternate universe created to exist outside the normal Marvelverse. Just about everything in it is different, about the only similarities are they both have a number of the same super heroe and villian names, and sometimes the same (or similar costumes), and often the same character playing the super hero or villian. Look at the Ultimate Captain America- he was remade in a costume like that of the 1940s World War II Captain America. However, a lot of the things that happened in the Marvelverse that made the characters… [cont.]

A. Anyplace that sells comics should have them. Where do you buy your comics? They should have the plastic bags. Just make sure you use all acid free material. Comics are printed on notoriously cheap paper with tons of acid in it. Pax-C

What books should I study to become a better comic book artist?
Q. I love graphic novel and comic book art. Any suggestions on books I should study to become a better comic book artist? I'm thinking both art books and perhaps specific graphic novels or comic books? Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated. Thank you!
Asked by chrisandniki - Thu Mar 12 15:18:28 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If I could draw (and I can't), I would find out if my favorite artists have a webpage and contact them for suggestions. Sometime they have message boards where people post their art to get pointers on how to improve. Otherwise, I would go to Amazon.com and search for books specific to comics such as "Drawing Cutting Edge Anatomy: The Ultimate Reference for Comic Book Artists (Paperback)". Read the reviews and see what other artists recommend.

What's the best site to sell comic books online?
Q. I am trying to sell many of the comic books that I have online. I tried ebay but I didn't get many bids for them. Is there any site that specializes in selling comic books online? Thanks.
Asked by Tyrone P - Sun Mar 23 12:23:23 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's possible you didn't get many bids because your comics aren't that rare or valuable, or you didn't provide the information people look for when they buy comics from eBay, or perhaps you had a starting/reserve price that was unrealistic. eBay really is the standard way to go. You can also try craigslist so you can find interested buyers in your area who can pick the books up and hand you cash, that way you don't have to deal with shipping or online money transfers. Or take them to your local comic book store. Unless your comics are from before 1975, any other method of selling is rarely worth all the trouble

A. New Avengers. That's the title that spawns every crossover (for better or worse) in Marvel these days. And Marvel will have no problem packing its roster with hot-selling heroes if the lineup looks stale. But Cap's dead, Thor may or may not be around, and I'm not sure whether Hulk is Red, Green, or Grey these days. The only titles in the Marvel universe with the Marvel characters still lively are the Marvel Adventures lineup. They're "for all ages," meaning that they're worthless, involve no crossovers, and take no risks. ...But I promise they're fun and they won't kill off your favorite superhero to cause a spike in sales.

A. A simple suggestion: "Comic books as modern mythology" The idea would be that ancient cultures had their own mythological stories about Zeus, Hercules, Mars, Quetzalcoatl, Krishna, etc. and about the supernatural as an explanation of the world around them. Comic books, in some ways, are an extension or a reflection of how modern readers/writers view the world around us. Consider when certain heroes were created (during the Cold War, during a time when a certain segment of society was oppressed, what were our fears and hopes during those times in history) and how the characters challenged those ideas. Consider Superman - a man of 'steel' who was indestructible? From an alien world? Spiderman - a man whose genetic makeup was altered by… [cont.]

How to become a writer for comic books or animation?
Q. I want to write comic books or maybe scripts for cartoons (not like spongebob) but like more serious type things like Fullmetal Alchemist or something, or come up with ideas for video games. I have no idea what field to go into. I have plenty of original ideas, just have no idea what college field I should go into. I can draw but would prefer not too, besides for rough sketches and stuff like that.

How should I sell my old comic books?
Q. I have 4 large boxes of comic books from the 1990s that I want to sell. How can I get the most value out of them? Should I sell them on eBay, to a comic store, or post an ad online or in the paper? Should I sell them individually, or in groups? Are the values listed in those comic book value guides accurate?
Asked by K - Thu Dec 18 17:54:45 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ebay if you only have a few If you have hundreds you should set up at comic book Show. You can get the times and addresses off the inter net My guess is that you probably have between $200.00 and $400 worth of comics (250 to a box) unless there are some special editions. Sold in bulk you can get between .20 to.30 cents each. The smaller the lots you sell the more you can get out of each. Individually some of them could bring more than the list price. Without knowing what books you have, and their condition all of the above is only random thinking or BS

Are comic books still worth a lot of money?
Q. I remember you could sell old classic graphic novels for good money. I have 2 boxes full of comic books since i was a kid, but since our economy has changed so much in recent years, i was wondering if i should even bother selling them?
Asked by Vibes - Fri Nov 7 18:30:56 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They can be worth a lot of money. If they are from mid-1980's till today, comics probably won't make much money. Other than some exceptions, most of those comics are not that rare. If the comics are from the early 1980's or earlier (60's or 70's) then there is a greater chance of them being worth a lot of money. And as other people mentioned, it depends of the condition. Check out someplace like to get an idea of your comics' worth. To answer your last question, you should probably hold on to your comics until the economy picks back up. (just my opinion)

A. Collectors often sell lots of comics and manga on Ebay for less than the cover price. You also might have some luck perusing garage sales and second hand shops. As for comic specialty stores, in my experience, they tend to charge more since they know more about the product they are selling. The exception to this rule is conventions: often times, one can buy comics and manga with 20-30% off the cover price depending on the dealer, more so if the title is uncommon.

Do I need to read Watchmen comic books before seeing the movie?
Q. Dune is a movie that you have to read the book in order to make sense of it. Does Watchmen fall into the same category? Are Watchmen comic books a prerequisite for the movie?
Asked by UserJoe9 - Fri Mar 13 19:44:12 2009 - - 10 Answers - 1 Comments

A. I think it's not necessary. Just b prepared - it is NOT a typical comic book hero movie. I went to see it with my wife. I had read the novel, she skimmed it. She had a TON of questions after seeing the movie, and I was able to answer them. There is a "mystical" connection to reading the book and enjoying the movie. The majority of readers liked the movie, while non-readers are fifty-fifty about the movie. So, you don't need to read the book. It enhances your experience of the movie. Just know that it is NOT a typical action-style movie. A friend of mine put it well when he said, "Watchmen is what happens when Superman hangs up his cape and goes home."

A. Both Spider-Man and any of the X-titles are usually enjoyable. They both have a long history though since they've been running for quite a while. I would just do a little bit of reading on Wikipedia for either and then pick up a few issues. You just have to start somewhere...and then come here with any questions.

A. Okay I am a fan of DC comics but recently Marvel has had some new stuff which for a newbie reader is a good option. For instance Marvel's first issue of its new series of Secret Avengers is an awesome read for anyone new to comic book reading. The best way to describe it is Super Spies. Another good comic book series to read is the Brightest Day from DC comics, however you must have read the Blackest Night. Good news though coming within the next month Blackest Night is coming out in Graphic Novel form. Oh another good read from Marvel is the Avengers. This is also a new series so again good for a newbie reader but be sure to look for it with the title "The Heroic Age". Hmm other comics. Personally I have been enjoying Kevin Smith's Green… [cont.]
